John Earwaker (1936-2007)                John Kilpatrick's Choral          Link to Percy Snowdon's Music Page

John Earwaker was an Anglican priest, spending many years working in higher education at Sheffield Hallam University. He had a wide experience of choral music, and played piano, organ, double-bass and cello. He sang in the Sheffield Motet Singers and then in the Sheffield Lydian Singers. Some of the church music he wrote is for all-age worship. His work includes a full-length musical, 'Cousin John', about John the Baptist, for which he wrote the script and lyrics as well as the music. All of John Earwaker's music is available free, including the whole of 'Cousin John'.

John Kilpatrick writes: John Earwaker's show Cousin John is highly recommended, and received considerable acclaim when premiered in Sheffield. It is now publicly available - see below.

Cousin John - a Musical by John Earwaker

"Cousin John" is a full-length musical about the life of John the Baptist. It can be presented as a concert performance, or a fully acted musical. A cast of 12 is supplemented by choruses of adults (SATB) and children. The orchestration is for flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, percussion, keyboard and string quintet, though performance with keyboard only would be possible. The show explores John Earwaker's interesting insights into John the Baptist and other characters in the story, and can hold the interest regardless of religious persuasion.
